Country road cutbacks

Labor’s recent city-centric roads ‘policy’ just shows how much they don’t get country Victoria.
It does not identify a single road project for regional areas.
Instead, it will rip money out of rural and regional roads.
The Victorian Coalition Government’s investment in roads so far totals $3.7 billion in almost three years. That’s more than a billion a year.
Under Labor this will shrink down to $125 million a year.
Under Labor, country roads will be starved of important maintenance – which then leads to cracks, rutting and potholes which wreak havoc on both cars and trucks.
The Coalition Government is helping the state’s rural shires with $160
million so they can do the road strengthening and bridge replacements that
would not otherwise get done.
Labor will stop this important funding to councils.
The Victorian Coalition Government is delivering the Princes Highway East upgrade, the $66 million Koo Wee Rup Bypass, $8.7 million on overtaking lanes on the Hyland Highway and Strzelecki Highway and an extra $11 million is going into road repairs and rehabilitation in eastern Victoria this year.
The $1 million each, per year to Bass Coast Shire, Baw Baw Shire, Wellington Shire, Mansfield Shire, Indigo Shire, Towong Shire, South Gippsland Shire and East Gippsland Shire are all at risk under Labor’s transport policy.
Terry Mulder MP,
Minister for Roads.
