Youth focused

IN THE three and a half years since the election of the Coalition Government the growth corridor of Casey/Cardinia has faced many challenges with local youth.
The Napthine Government is committed to working with local council and local community groups to offer opportunities for young people to gain valuable life skills.
The Hon. Ryan Smith MP, Minister for Youth Affairs continues to meet with local young people to hear their ideas and concerns for the future.
In Casey/Cardinia the government has invested more than $800,000 in youth specific programs, many of these programs led by young people, for young people.
Additionally, the government is committed to increasing the opportunities available to young people through Tafe and Vocational Training. This year, the Napthine Government has committed $1.2 billion in Vocational Education, nearly a 50 per cent increase from the last Labor Government.
The Napthine Government has invested more than $800,000 in mental health locally with Headspace.
This program has allowed a direct in school approach to the prevention of suicide.
In a growth corridor it is vital to have services, education and employment opportunities for young people. I thank all our community groups, sports groups and individuals who support our youth.
The Napthine Government will continue to support local youth programs like Engage, Freeza and National Youth Week, giving young people a fair go.
