Prime cuts for research

Those who grow and sell prime lambs or breed and sell rams for prime lamb production are invited to participate in a new research project.
The Lamb Research Project is designed to explore influences within the Victorian lamb industry that support or hinder adoption of genetic improvement by lamb producers.
This study aims to understand Victorian producers’ perceptions and experiences of genetic measures, specifically Australian sheep breeding values, for improving their farms’ productivity and profitability.
Those who agree to participate will be asked to join a focus group discussion that will take between two to three hours.
The information provided will remain anonymous and participation is voluntary.
The results from the focus group discussion will be analysed as part of a PhD thesis.
This will provide findings that may be of value to the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR formerly DEPI) and other lamb industry organisations that could assist in developing approaches to support and reinforce organizational innovation.
This study is being conducted by Erica Schelfhorst, a Bestwool/BestLamb facilitator who is also a PhD research student at the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Science at the University of Melbourne.
