Reduced yard lifts prices

There were a few less head yarded for the Wednesday Fat Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last week with 738 head penned.
This was 240 down on the previous week. Demand was strong in all categories and resulted in a lift across all sections.
Less bullocks with weight averages similar to the previous sale averaged $50 per head up. Heifers were strongest on the day, whilst steers and vealers averaged eight to 10 cents better.
The yard average was 11 cents stronger at 216.3 cents.
Sixty one bullocks topped at 237.6 cents, up 1.6 cents, and averaged 206.4 cents, up 12 cents; 46 heifers topped at 242.6 cents, back five cents, and averaged 203.6 cents, up 19 cents; 120 steers topped at 237.6 cents, back four cents, and averaged 202.6 cents, up eight cents, and 501 veal topped at 275.2 cents, up eight cents, and averaged 224.8 cents, up nine cents.
On Thursday a lift of nine cents for the top bull price saw the best price achieved at 258.6 cents.
The 40 bulls penned averaged 20 cents up at 208.6 cents; 26 bullocks made to 210 cents and averaged 197 cents and 349 cows made a top of 215.2 cents and averaged 13 cents better at 168.4 cents, with a yard average of 175.3 cents, up 15 cents.
