Buyers put off by high prices

There were approximately 950 export and 1000 young cattle penned at VLE Pakenham.
There was an almost full field of buyers present, although not all were operating and competing in a dearer market.
Quality was mixed with some very good prime drafts at the top while cattle lacking finish were in greater supply.
The limited selection of vealers suited to butcher orders lifted four cents to seven cents per kilogram.
Yearling steers and heifers suited to the trade improved seven cents for most while the young cattle which sold to feeder orders did so 10 cents to 15 cents per kilogram dearer.
Grown steers improved 10 cents while the bullocks lifted three cents to eight cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold up to nine cents per kilogram dearer.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers gained five cents to 12 cents with the crossbred portion lifting six cents per kilogram.
The vealers sold mostly from 214 cents to 267 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 232 cents and 266 cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 220 cents and 255 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 218 cents to 246 cents with the heifer portion from 204 cents to 239 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers sold from 238 cents to 274 cents per kilogram.
Bullocks made between 232 cents and 272 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold between 198 cents and 2456 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 198 cents to 226 cents with the crossbred portion from 208 cents to 242 cents per kilogram.
