Demand lifts prices

The Fat Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, contained 430 less head on the previous week and with demand still firm, buyers lifted rates with all categories recording improved prices.
Bullocks sold to strong demand with a top sale up 13 cents.
Steers had the best lift with feedlots and restockers prominent.
Heifers saw a lift of $79 per head on the previous week and veal remained firm to stronger.
The yard average rose nine cents to 223.2 cents.
Seventy eight bullocks topped at 255, up 13, and averaged 236.4, up 16; 58 heifers topped at 249.2, firm, and averaged 223.6 cents, up 15 cents; 154 steers topped at 260 cents, up 13 cents, and averaged 229.6 cents, up 18 cents, and 403 veal topped at 270 cents, firm, and averaged 216.9 cents, up two cents.
Bulls and Cows on Thursday also saw a smaller yarding with 616 head yarded.
Bulls eased on recent weeks making a top of 263.6 cents, back five cents and the average was seven cents easier at 201.1 cents.
Only a handful of bullocks were penned but the top was up 12 cents to 235.6 cents, and the average was 17 cents better at 220.1 cents.
Almost 200 less cows were yarded and sold to good demand making to a top of 226.2 cents, up 16 cents on the previous week and with an average of 168.7 cents, cows were 14 cents up.
The yard average for Thursday was 172.9 cents, up 11 cents.
