Prices reward for effort

With demand still strong across the state, prices for the Wednesday Fat Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, continued in an upward move.
With good condition and firm weights vendors are happy to receive the better prices as a reward for their efforts.
Bullock demand is strongest with a good rise of 12 cents on average.
Feedlots and restockers remain prominent in the steer section.
Heifers are still firm and with a little less condition were the only category to ease on average as the secondary pens slipped.
Vealers increased their value on the back of stronger demand.
Seventy nine bullocks made to 278 cents, up 22 cents, and averaged 248.3 cents, up 12 cents; 67 heifers topped at 262 cents, up 13 cents, and averaged 216.2 cents, back seven cents; 176 steers made to 281.6 cents, up 21 cents, and averaged 236.2 cents, up seven cents and 254 veal made to 272 cents, up two cents, and averaged 230.9 cents, up 14 cents.
The yard average was up 11 cents to 234.2 cents.
On Thursday there were 761 head yarded, and 55 bulls made to 262.6 cents firm on the previous week, and averaged firm at 201.2 cents; 53 bullocks topped at 251.2 cents, up 16 cents to average 212.2 cents and 641 cows reached a top of 250 cents, up 24 cents and averaged 11 cents better at 179.5 cents.
The Thursday yard average was 183.6 cents, up 11 cents.
