Prices firm despite increased yard

Although last Wednesday’s numbers were up on the previous week, demand still managed to remain firm to stronger at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Top end vealers lifted in price as did the middle range store types as feedlots took advantage of the extra numbers.
Some very light pens eased slightly with several restockers being the only interested parties.
Bullock numbers were up and the average weight in the bullock section was marginally lighter which eased competition, slipping the average back.
Heifers averaged lighter but demand was stronger lifting the average by eight cents and, with the interest stronger from feedlots, the steer section saw a good gain in both the top price and the average, with the average price per head $125 up on the previous week.
