Strong feedlot demand

There were approximately 1000 export and 1300 young cattle penned representing an increase of 600 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a mixed market as the export grades sold to softer demand while the larger offering of young cattle sold firm to slightly easier with a strong feedlot demand underpinning processor requirements for the domestic trade.
Quality was plainer with a more limited selection of prime cattle and a large proportion of the yarding in secondary condition or worse.
Heavyweight vealers suited to butcher orders sold firm.
Yearling trade steers sold a few cents easier with the heifer portion one cent to five cents per kilogram cheaper.
Grown steers and bullocks slipped six cents to 11 cents for most and up to 15 cents in places.
Heavyweight crossbred manufacturing steers dropped 17 cents.
Heavyweight vealers to butchers sold from 280 cents to 327 cents for the much larger selection.
Yearling trade steers made between 282 cents and 320 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 264 cents and 312 cents.
Medium weight feeder steers made from 272 cents to 298 cents with the heifer portion from 264 cents to 288 cents.
Grown steers sold from 268 cents to 292 cents. Bullocks made between 266 cents and 288 cents. Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers sold between 251 cents and 277 cents.
