Quality lifts all categories

LAST Wednesday saw a similar yard to previous weeks at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange fat sale.
Improved quality lifted all categories with demand stronger and also a few less lighter store types on offer.
All categories recorded a lift in the top price with the average for the yarding reaching 285.4 cents up 33 cents on last sale, returning a per head average of $1113, up $152.
A total of 31 bullocks reached 318.6 cents, up 12 cents, and averaged 279.5 cents, up 27 cents, 39 heifers made to 317.6 cents, up 24 cents, and averaged 275.5 cents, up 52 cents, 80 steers made to 330 cents, up 21 cents, and averaged 292.4 cents, up 56 cents, and 209 vealers reached 348.6 cents, up 17 cents, and averaged 289.5 cents, up 15 cents.
With recent events in the dairy industry, vendors have started to thin out herds, releasing the least productive producers which lifted numbers on Thursday to 961 head.
Demand remained steady with the larger numbers as 922 cows reached a top of 263.6 cents, back three cents, and the average was five cents easier at 171.4 cents.
There were 35 bulls sold and the top was up 21 cents to 268.6 cents, and the average was up three cents to 237.1 cents, with the yard average five cents easier at 174.8 cents.
