Tactics to help tough it out

GIPPSLAND dairy farmers are being encouraged to attend a series of workshops aimed at developing individual farm plans to deal with the current challenging conditions.
Tactics for Tight Times, which is being supported by Dairy Australia through GippsDairy, will deliver a co-ordinated industry response which builds on the seasonal programs that have been rolled out across the region since late 2015.
With a theme of Finances, Feed and Friends, the sessions will focus on understanding the options dairy farmers have, the tactics they can use and the decisions they need to make to work through the current financial and climatic conditions.
GippsDairy regional manager Allan Cameron said the industry was pulling together to help farmers through a tough period.
“With support from Dairy Australia, GippsDairy is co-ordinating these events so farmers can easily access information from farm consultants, finance experts, vets, experienced dairy farmers, and GippsDairy staff,” he said.
“The Tactics sessions are aimed at assisting farmers to address short-term strategies for finances and feed as well as options for maximizing pasture growth.”
Mr Cameron also urged farmers to keep their own wellbeing and the health of their family, friends and neighbours at the forefront of their thinking.
“An important part of the Tactics program is addressing the need for looking after yourself during a stressful time and encouraging everyone in the industry to be aware of the issues surrounding physical and mental health and to keep an eye on those around them,” he said.
Tactics sessions will be held at the Korumburra Showgrounds from 10.45am to 1pm on 25 May, Meeniyan Bowls Club from 6.45 to 9.15pm on 26 May, Yarram Uniting Church from 10.15am to 12.30pm on 27 May, Willow Grove football club rooms from 10.45am to 1pm on 30 May, Labertouche Hall from 6.45 to 9.15pm on 30 May and Bruthen Pub from 10.45am to 1pm on 31 May.
To book places at the sessions phone 5624 3900 or email executiveassistant@gippsdairy.com.au.
