Vendors enjoy the spoils

STRONG demand, extra quality pens and larger numbers saw vendors win out at last week’s Wednesday fat sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange.
All categories saw a good lift in the top and the average.
The only one with a larger percentage of secondary pens was the steer section but did not deter buyers in the better end.
Only a few bullocks were yarded but strong demand saw a price range from 306.6 cents to 280 cents.
Although heifers averaged lighter, competition was brisk and the veal section saw prices reach 355 cents with the per head price rising $90 to $982.
This week’s yard average was up 19 cents to 305.1 cents.
Five bullocks made to 306.6 cents and averaged 299.2 cents, 42 heifers made to 331.2 cents, up 10, and averaged 289.5 cents, up 16 cents.
Sixty-two steers made to 331.2 cents, up 10 cents, and averaged 299.1 cents, up 20 cents, 350 veal made to 355 cents, up seven cents, and averaged 311.7 cents, up 15 cents.
