THERE were approximately 315 export and 300 young cattle penned representing an increase of 24 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present competing in a dearer market.
Quality was wintry with most well finished drafts being grain assisted.
A handful of quality vealers suited to butcher orders lifted 10 cents.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade sold firm to 10 cents dearer with most being grain assisted.
The grown steers and bullocks were mostly 500kg to 600kg and sold two to three cents dearer.
A few pens of heavy weight friesian manufacturing steers improved 14 cents.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 360 cents to 380 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 348 cents and 380 cents. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 320 cents and 370 cents.
Grown steers and bullocks made from 324 cents to 378 cents.
A limited selection of heavy weight grown heifers reached a top of 355 cents. Heavy weight friesian manufacturing steers sold from 284 cents to 289 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 1 August is 1, Nathan Gibbon Livestock; 2, S.E.J.; 3, Rodwells; 4, Alex Scott and Staff; 5, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 6, Landmark; 7, Elders.
