Bullocks rise in reduced market

A LARGER number of secondary head and fewer numbers resulted in easier prices last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange.
Bullocks were the only category to see an increase in numbers which saw a lift in the average, with some very good quality and weights.
Heifer numbers were similar to the previous week, secondary pens tested agents as demand in this area was back, steers also slipped with weight averages back and extra secondary steers yarded.
There were fewer vealers as well with the top quality of recent weeks absent and therefore eased in both the top price and averages.
Again there were a couple of pens of stores on offer with both steers and heifers yarded with the steer pen selling to a top of 461.2 cents per kilo.
The week’s yard average was back 11 cents to 334.5 cents, 16 bullocks made to 360 cents, firm, and averaged 344.6 cents, up four cents, 32 heifers made to 368.6 cents, back 12 cents, and averaged 286.2 cents, back 51 cents.
Twenty nine steers made to 375 cents, up five cents, and averaged 307.1 cents, back 24 cents, and 173 veal made to 403.2 cents, back seven cents, and averaged 353.8 cents, back five cents.
Thursday saw a firm to slightly stronger sale with 25 bulls making to a top of 316.2 cents, up two cents and averaged 276.8 cents also a two cents increase, 16 bullocks sold to 270 cents to average 250.3 cents, and 532 cows up 100 head made to a top of 327.6 cents, an increase of 15 cents on last Thursday, and the cow average was firm at 233.1 cents, with the yard average also firm on the week.
The draw for 7 and 8 September is: 1, SEJ; 2, Elders; 3, Scotts; 4, Gibbon; 5, Landmark.
