Small market maintains competition

NUMBERS remained lower last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange and this in-turn is tended to hold prices as buyers contested to obtain necessary numbers.
Some secondary pens attracted less attention from processors and fewer private buyers were present forcing these pens into easier prices.
Again only a few bullocks were yarded with only four offered.
Good heifer numbers with better condition sold strongly and lifted on the day.
Extra steers were penned and although average weights were back demand saw a rise in values, vealer numbers were lighter and condition was easier, especially in the secondary section.
The week’s yard average was up six cents to 339.6 cents.
A total of 41 heifers topped at 371.2 cents, up 16 cents, and averaged 311.2 cents, up 22 cents, 70 steers topped at 380 cents, firm, and averaged 355.7 cents, up 27 cents and 93 veal topped at 417.2 cents, firm, and averaged 348.3 cents, back seven cents.
On Thursday there were more bulls offered with 24 penned.
The top was slightly easier at 304.6 cents and prices were easier across all pens pulling the average by 10 cents to 266.7 cents, 442 cows yarded reached 284.7 cents, this was back on last week.
Prices across the yarding were firm with only a few pens of light secondary head, with the finished average firm at 232.4 cents.
The yard average was firm at 235.1 cents.
The Draw for 21 and 22 September is 1, Elders; 2, Gibbon; 3, Landmark; 4, Scotts; 5, SEJ.
