Market sees prices settle

WITH the extra numbers around the state and processors holding stocks, prices have eased across most categories and are starting to settle.
Bullock numbers are still down as stocks diminish with only four head last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange.
Heifer numbers were up and some good quality forced prices upward last week for the fat sale.
Steers remained firm in numbers but some lacking quality in the secondary pens resulted in the steer average losing ground.
Vealer numbers were up with an extra 60 head penned. Quality was firm on recent weeks with demand the only reason this category slipped although this was only by four cents on average.
The yard average remained firm at 324.8 cents per kilo.
Four bullocks made to 318.6 cents firm and averaged 279.7 cents, 24 heifers made to 338.2 cents, back five cents, and averaged 294.3 cents, up eight cents, 39 steers made to 319.6 cents, back 24 cents, and averaged 273.6 cents, back 25 cents, and 194 veal made to 399.6 cents firm, and averaged 351.4 cents, back four cents.
The Thursday bull and cow sale contained fewer bulls with eight penned.
The top bull sold to 285.6 cents, back 13 cents, and the average was firm at 256.9 cents, and there were more cows yarded with 328 head on offer, with the top price up 34 cents to 293.6, and with more in the lighter secondary pens the average eased five cents to 208.2 cents, with the yard average seven cents easier at 209.8 cents.
The draw for 9 and 10 November is: 1, Elders; 2, Gibbon; 3, Landmark; 4, Scotts; 5, SEJ.
