Prices begin to settle

WITH the extra numbers around the state and processors holding stocks, prices have eased across most categories and are starting to settle at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange.
Bullock numbers are still down as stocks diminish with only five head last week.
Heifer numbers were up and some good quality forced prices upward last week for the fat sale, steers increased in numbers and price resulted in the steer average up 11 cents.
The week saw vealer numbers increase to 277 which was 83 more on the previous week’s yarding.
With a price drop of 13 cents, the yard average was five cents easier at 319.10 cents per kilogram.
Five bullocks made to 310 cents, back eight cents, and averaged 292.3 cents, up 13 cents, 35 heifers made to 317.2 cents, back two cents, and averaged 264.4 cents, back 30 cents.
Forty-seven steers made to 332 cents, up 13 cents, and averaged 284.4 cents, up 11 cents, and 277 veal made to 385.2 cents, back 14 cents, and averaged 338.6 cents, back 13 cents.
The Thursday bull and cow sale contained more bulls with 29 penned.
The top bull sold to 287.2 cents, up two cents, and the average was firm at 256.5 cents, and there were more cows yarded with 470 head on offer, with the top price to 300.6 cents, with the yard average price easier at 220.3 cents.
