There were approximately 500 export and 400 young cattle penned representing a similar overall number week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a mixed market which saw cattle suited to the trade selling dearer while the export grades were generally slightly easier overall.
Quality was mixed with secondary cattle throughout and many lacking finish.
Vealers suited to butchers sold six to 10 cents per kilogram dearer and more on some isolated sales. Yearling cattle to the trade sold from firm to six cents dearer with a few grain assisted lines selling to strong demand.
Grown steers and bullocks sold from firm for the better lots to eight cents cheaper for the secondary lines. A limited selection of heavy grown heifers held firm. Friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers sold firm.
Vealers suited to butchers sold from 330 cents to 384 cents, yearling trade steers made between 320 cents and 362 cents, and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 294 cents and 362 cents.
Grown steers made from 300 cents to 330 cents, bullocks sold from 297 cents to 325 cents, and heavy weight grown heifers made between 270 cents and 306 cents.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 224 cents and 260 cents with the crossbred portion between 270 cents and 308 cents.
