Vealers buck the trend

An increase in numbers last week for the Wednesday fat sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange saw vealers bucking the trend as demand remained firm to dearer with vealers selling to 385.6 cents.
An increase in heifers numbers saw and increase in price to sell to 339.2 cents, and steers saw more interest from processors to sell to 324.6 cents.
The week’s yard average was back nine cents to 313.7 cents.
Eighty-one heifers made to 339.2 cents, up 30 cents, and averaged 270.9 cents, up seven cents, 44 steers made to 324.6 cents, firm, and averaged 291.8 cents, up 18 cents, and 267 veal made to 385.6 cents, up four cents, and averaged 342.2 cents, back four cents.
For the bull and chopper sale on Thursday there were 20 bulls with more beef breeds on offer than the previous week and the top was down 18 cents, but the average was up 19 cents.
The top was 264.2, while 282 cows reached a top of 277.6, up 14 cents and the cow average was 13 cents better at 196.7.
The draw for 8 and 9 March is: 1, SEJ; 2, Landmark 3.Elders, 4.Ngl, 5 Scotts.
