Last week’s fat sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange followed up the previous week’s yarding of 35 head with a more realistic number of 365 head.
Prices were slightly easier than the larger sale of three weeks ago, condition was starting to slip and was noticeable among the pens.
Bullock numbers were back and sold to less competition, heifers, steers and veal all sold to easier demand last week and eased prices across the board.
The week’s yard average was 10 cents easier at 309.3 cents.
Five bullocks topped at 309.6 cents, back 21 cents, and averaged 288.6 cents, back 15 cents, 16 heifers topped at 322.2 cents, back 23 cents, and averaged 246.4 cents, back 19 cents, 44 steers topped at 314.2 cents, back 16 cents, and averaged 259.3 cents, and 300 veal topped at 385 cents, back two, and averaged 326.5 cents, back 18 cents.
The bull and cow sale on Thursday saw 594 head yarded and although demand for bulls was consistent, cows eased with demand, 23 bulls made to 322.2 cents, up 15 cents and averaged two cents better at 253.3 cents.
There were 562 cows offered and the top was back nine cents to 300 cents, while the average was 22 cents easier at 192.8 cents and the yard average eased 22 cents to 196.3 cents.
