Buyers hold back from cheaper market

There were approximately 220 export and 150 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 100 head week-on-week.
Most of the usual buying group was present but not all were operating in the cheaper market.
Quality remained mixed with most grass finished cattle showing the effects of the winter while there was a good selection of well finished grain assisted cattle including some heavy weights.
A handful of vealers eased by 10 cents.
Yearling trade steers sold to fluctuating demand with weight an issue in places and averaged generally firm.
Yearling heifers to the trade eased mostly five cents, grown steers and bullocks slipped 12 cents to 17 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers held firm, vealers to butchers sold from 280 cents to 324 cents, yearling trade steers made between 291 cents and 342 cents, and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 266 cents and 305 cents.
