Quality mixed in firm market

There were approximately 200 export and 280 young cattle penned representing an increase of 170 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality was very mixed with secondary and plainer lots throughout and a larger offering of young cattle suited to the trade.
Vealers and yearling trade cattle sold from mostly firm to a little easier on some sales with quality an issue.
Grown steers sold just off equal while the sprinkling of bullocks slipped by 10 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers improved for a better quality selection. Heavy manufacturing steers eased by mostly eight cents.
Vealers to butchers sold from 307 cents to 339 cents, yearling trade steers made between 294 cents and 337 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 270 cents and 315 cents.
Grown steers made from 282 cents to 296 cents, bullocks sold from 280 cents to 290 cents, heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish made between 260 cents and 286 cents, and heavy manufacturing steers sold between 256 cents and 288 cents.
