Vealers lead market

An increase in numbers at last Wednesday’s Baw Baw Livestock Exchange fat cattle sale saw 266 head penned of which 90 per cent were vealers and prices, as expected, remained firm to slightly stronger, as the yard average lifted 11 cents to 291.9 cents.
Only two bullocks and two heifers sold and were steady, 23 steers topped at 325 cents and averaged 268.9 cents and 237 veal made to 351.2 cents to average 299 cents.
A few less head yarded on Thursday. Nineteen bulls sold to stronger demand topping at 268.6 cents with the bull average up five cents to 242.2 cents.
Also penned were 296 cows which made to a top of 265 cents, up seven cents on last week and a few secondary pens pulled the average back four cents to 199.4 cents.
Overall the yard average eased four cents to 203 cents.
The draw 6 and 7 September is: 1 Scotts, 2 SEJ, 3 Elders, 4 Gibbon, 5 Landmark.
