Veal market sees lighter demand

Last Wednesday’s yarding at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange consisted of mainly vealers which sold to easier demand.
Steers and heifers were stronger but very few were penned, and a few bullocks on offer were also easier on the day.
Eleven bullocks made to 262 cents to average 179.7 cents, nine heifers made to 287.6 cents, up nine cents, and averaged 278.5 cents, 13 steers made to 285.6 cents, back 10 cents, and averaged 276.7 cents.
Eighty-two veal made to 335 cents, back 12 cents, and averaged 287.3 cents, 13 bulls on Thursday topped at 275.2 cents and averaged 237.5 cents, up eight cents on the last sale, 311 cows made to a top of 263.2 cents, 15 cents better, and the cow average was up 17 cents to 203.4.
Better condition weights and demand resulted in a much improved sale.
The draw for 18 and 19 October is 1, Scotts; 2, SEJ; 3, Gibbon; 4, Elders; 5, Landmark.
