Increased numbers on firm market

There were approximately 820 export and 400 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing an increase of 960 head week-on-week after the previous week’s holiday-affected offering.
There were a couple of orders returned after a long absence with the usual buying group operating in a mixed but generally firm market.
Quality improved in all grades with a large proportion of export cattle on offer.
The better selection of trade cattle sold mostly firm with the greater numbers causing softer competition for some secondary lots.
Grown steers and bullocks sold two to four cents easier and heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers improved by four cents to six cents.
Vealers to butchers sold from 282 cents to 337 cents, yearling trade steers made between 274 cents and 320 cents, and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 253 cents and 295 cents.
Grown steers made from 263 cents to 288 cents, bullocks sold from 262 cents to 286 cents, heavy weight grown heifers made between 244 cents and 285 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 223 cents and 253 cents with the crossbred portion between 244 cents and 277 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 20 November is: 1, Alex Scott and Staff; 2, Elders; 3, Landmark; 4, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 5, Rodwells; 6, SEJ; 7, Nathan Gibbon Livestock.
The next store sale is on Thursday 16 November at 10am.
