Numbers up but demand steady

Vealer numbers were higher at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange last week and there were fewer bullocks, steers and heifers.
Demand for all categories remained firm to slightly easier.
Very few bullocks were penned with only four on offer, heifers averaged heavier on the last sale and a good range of steers gave this section the only lift in the average price.
The yard average for Wednesday was six cents easier at 261.3 cents, four bullocks topped at 255 cents, back 10 cents, and averaged 244.2 cents, back 11 cents.
Twenty five heifers topped at 245 cents, back 45 cents, and averaged 222.8 cents, back 33 cents, 24 steers topped at 280 cents, up seven cents, and averaged 258.7 cents, up 29 cents, and 195 veal topped at 320.6 cents to average 272.3 cents.
On Thursday 23 bulls made to 300.2 cents, up 17 cents, and averaged 21 cents better at 246.3 cents while 318 cows topped out at 250 cents, firm, on the previous week and cows averaged two cents easier at 206.3 cents.
