Quality gives vealers a lift

There were a few extra head yarded last week at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange and this was in the vealer section as well as 30 lighter stores sold open auction.
Quality again was consistent in the vealer pens and this managed to give this category a lift in both the top price as well as the average.
Demand across all sections was improved giving the yarding a well-earned gain of 16 cents for the average cents per kilo price.
Eight bullocks made to 270.2 cents, up 15 cents, and averaged 249.8 cents, up five cents, 10 heifers made to 264.2 cents, up 19 cents, and averaged 232.1 cents, up 10 cents.
Thirty five steers made to 300 cents, up 20 cents, and averaged 286.3 cents, up 28 cents, 230 veal made to 338.6 cents, up 18 cents, and averaged 283.3 cents, up 11 cents, and 30 light store calves averaged $324 per head.
There were also larger numbers in the Thursday bull and cow sale and demand continued to be improved.
Twenty eight bulls made to 283.2 cents and averaged three cents better at 249.3 cents.
Cow numbers rose to 331 head and reached 245 cents, averaging 207.3 cents, and also yarded were 31 bullocks which reached 253.2 cents and averaged 231.8 cents.
The resulting yard average was up three cents to 213.2 cents.
