Cultural diversity at St Patrick’s

At St Patrick’s we pride ourselves on the cultural diversity we have amongst our school community. St Patrick’s is host to large communities of families from Myanmar and South Sudanese communities. We have also seen a rise in the addition of Sikh families which has been a wonderful addition.

We have a group of the South Sudanese ladies who come together regularly to participate in sewing and other craft related activities. They produce some magnificent pieces that they donate back to the community.

It has been delightful to see more interaction also from our Myanmar community members. The barrier of language can always be an obstacle for any new people to our community, but they have made so many inroads as they learn and master the English language every day.

At St Patrick’s we have the assistance of both Myanmar and Sudanese Liaison officers, along with some of our dedicated Education Support Officers, who work closely with these two communities in particular to ensure they receive the support they need in terms of communication with the school. They are assisted with enrolments for both Primary and Secondary schools, excursion, swimming programs, special events days such as Mother’s and Father’s Day, school assemblies and school closure days.

We are delighted to see the incredible richness our families bring to our St Patrick’s community which continues to grow and thrive and enhance the wonderful diverse community. Please make time to come and visit us!
