About Town: Mayor Jack celebrates Lions back to back, Beaconhills student scoops Fev

Lions Win, Mayor Roars

The footy finals brought the heat and we’re not just talking tackles and goals. Tensions were high across town as Geelong faced off against the Brisbane Lions in a weekend clash that had everyone glued to their screens or cheering them on at the stadium. Cardinia Shire Mayor Jack Kowarzik, a proud Lions supporter, took to social media just hours before the match, posting a cheeky message:

“Last footy post for a while in case the Lions don’t win… Have fun today, be safe, and go Lions!”.

But after the Lions’ big win, silence was off the table. The mayor returned online with one word, “unbelievable”. Looks like the mayor’s team spirit paid off – don’t expect the footy posts to stop anytime soon.

Opposition Leader Brad Battin secured a ticket at the G and was also asked if he could send a photo of himself and his family at the game, but no photo has been received yet.

Given his busy schedule, but most of all, the shocking loss by his beloved Cats, the Gazette team understands.

Student scoops interview with Fev

Year 7 students at Beaconhills College recently studied biographies where they were tasked to interview a person of their choice to write their life story.

Students are encouraged to pick a family or community member, but Connor from the Pakenham campus went big by choosing former Carlton gun and all-around legend Brendan Fevola.

Fev might be busy being a media personality or developing players among the coaching team for Richmond’s AFLW side, but the Narre Warren-raised star still makes time for kids of the South East.

Connor simply asked and Fev made the time, where it’s reported he spoke openly about his life’s highs and lows.

Alongside fellow student Will, they have developed detailed biographies of the former star forward.

Now, Connor is hoping to personally present a copy of his finished work to the big man himself.

Landing such an interview, there might just be a spot open for Connor at the Gazette office if he continues with his writing.
